Thank you Chief Schmidt

After 38 years of service to the community of Fern Creek , our first paid fire Chief, has retired. Words cannot express the gratitude we have for his leadership and guidance. Over his time as Chief our department has evolved from a strictly volunteer into a combination department. He over saw the hiring of our first paid firefighters, the building of a new firehouse, and the purchases of several pieces of apparatus. He has built our department into what it is today and is the reason we can provide Fern Creek with some of the best fire protection in the state. Thank you Chief Schmidt for your lifetime of service. We hope you enjoy your well deserved retirement.

Lunch Update

Salvage and Overhaul Training

Monday night our members trained on the importance of Salvage during fire operations. While the act of Salvaging items from a burning structure isn’t tactically vital it is easily one of the most important acts we can do for the victims of fires. A fire is an emotionally draining experience for residents, and being proficient at salvage is a way we can reduce that stress. While homes may be lost, the ability to save and protect at least some of person’s cherished belongings may be what holds them together.  Our salvage training focuses on two key areas. Removing water from the home and shielding larger items in place.

Cops and Cones

Come on out and see our friends in blue! Louisville Metro Police will be hosting an ice cream event at the Bardstown rd Kroger on July 27th.

New trustees – 2019

Congratulations to Fern Creek’s newest Trustee! Sgt Dale Shewmaker was elected to our Board of Trustees as a firefighter representative. Dale has been a member of our department for 8 years and is currently a sergeant on platoon 3.

We would also like to give a HUGE thank you to Major Todd Newman! After 20 years, Major Newman decided to step down as one of our firefighter reps on the Board of Trustees.  He has been constant voice for our firefighters and he will be missed.

Finally, we are delighted that Mayor Appointed Trustee Tracy DeLoch has agreed to stay on for another 3 year term. Tracy currently serves as of Secretary of the Board. She is a huge asset and a brings a wealth of knowledge to our Board of Trustees.

Dangers of Summer Heat

How to stay safe

The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for our local area.
From 2PM Thursday, until 8PM Sunday, high temperatures and high humidity will produce heat indices ranging from 100 degrees to as high as 110 degrees.
Temperatures in this range can lead to dangerous and even deadly conditions- especially for the elderly, and for very young children.
The following information will show you the signs and symptoms to look out for to avoid these potentially deadly conditions.
