Headquarters located at 6200 Bardstown Road
The Fern Creek Fire Department is a combination department with fifty (50) volunteers and seventeen (17) career firefighters. Under the direction of Chief Mike Schmidt, Jr. the Department responds to fires, rescues and medical emergencies in a 56 square mile radius of the south central area of Jefferson County.
The Department has four stations. All but station #4 have a community room available for rent to the public for a nominal fee. These rooms are also used for public meetings and evacuation shelters. Station 1 was completed in June 1976. Station 2 at 9409 Bardstown Road was dedicated during the Department's 50th Anniversary Celebration in 1995. Station 3 at 7700 Routt Road was opened in 1984, and our newest station (#4) was completed in 2003.
