Crusade 2019

Thank you for helping Fern Creek Fire Department collect over $194,000 for the 2019 Crusade for Children. Fern Creek was the over #1 fire department for crusade donations this year. Even though this was an outstanding year for us it was also bitter sweet. Captain Eric Brown is stepping aside as our Crusade chairman. With Eric leading the charge Fern Creek has collected over 1.2 million dollars in nine years. This was also Mike Schmidt’s last Crusade as Chief of the Fern Creek Fire Department. Chief has been collecting for the Crusade his entire career. We were glad to make #1 this year as an awesome way to say thank you to these two outstanding men.

Memorial Day

Crusade week 2019!

It’s thats time of year again. Time to empty your change jar and help us fill one very important bucket. Fern Creek members will be out in force all week collecting for the Crusade for Children. Look for us everyday at the road blocks. Bardstown and S. Hurstbourne in the mornings and Bardstown and Gene Synder in the evening starting at 4pm. We will begin our door to door collection Wednesday evening. If you’re afraid we’ll miss you when we’re collecting feel free to stop in and drop your donation off at the firehouse.

Crusade for children is a cause that is near and dear to every firefighter’s heart. At the end of the week it isn’t about the fire trucks or the competition. It is about the millions of dollars that we all collect together.

Stepping up to Serve

We would like to congratulate two of our members on their decision to serve in the armed forces. Colin Gardner has decide to continue his reserve duty. He is moving over to the KY Air National guard and will be an aircraft firefighter. Joey Ward has enlisted into the Army as a calvary scout. We are proud of their commitment to serve our nation!

Engineer Recert Training

One of the most important trainings we do throughout the year is engineer recertification. It is vital that every engineer gets time driving and pumping each apparatus in our fleet. Skills like drafting and aerial operation may only be used a few times a year on fire scenes. It is extremely important for our members to practice these skills so they are ready when the need does arise.

Paintbal fun

On April 27th some of our members joined teams from around the county in a paintball tournament. This event was hosted by Eastwood fire at Paintball asylum. While Fern Creek may not have brought home the gold it was all for a good cause. Proceeds from the tournament went the the WHAS 11 Crusade for Children.

7172 Refurb

Over the last year we have been working to refurb Forestry 7172, our 1978 CJ7. While many Jefferson County departments utilize pickup trucks as field units Fern Creek went a different route. Our district has more rural and wooded areas than most other department. Having the Jeep allows easier access these remote places. It’s short wheel base and powerful drive train allows 72 to go places the other field units can’t.  72 has been part of our fleet for over 40 years, and hopefully with these upgrades we can get 40 more!
