Paintbal fun

On April 27th some of our members joined teams from around the county in a paintball tournament. This event was hosted by Eastwood fire at Paintball asylum. While Fern Creek may not have brought home the gold it was all for a good cause. Proceeds from the tournament went the the WHAS 11 Crusade for Children.

7172 Refurb

Over the last year we have been working to refurb Forestry 7172, our 1978 CJ7. While many Jefferson County departments utilize pickup trucks as field units Fern Creek went a different route. Our district has more rural and wooded areas than most other department. Having the Jeep allows easier access these remote places. It’s short wheel base and powerful drive train allows 72 to go places the other field units can’t.  72 has been part of our fleet for over 40 years, and hopefully with these upgrades we can get 40 more!

Scholarship award!

On March 7th Crystal Ferrell noticed a house fire while on her way to school. She stopped, called 911, and alerted the homeowners, giving them ample time to escape. Her actions that day saved lives! As a small token of our appreciation we were able to give Crystal a $1,000 scholarship to the university of Kentucky. Crystal has a very bright future ahead of her and we are very proud to play a part in it!

Visit from Sayers Academy

On March 27th Sayers Academy visited us at station one. They received a top notch class and tour from Captain Elstone. We love when our community comes to visit us!

Busy 2 weeks!!!

The last two weeks have been very busy for the Fern Creek Fire Department. House fires, car fires, car wrecks, not to mention lots of wire and tree down runs from recent winds! Luckily even though these runs were serious all of our firefighters and civilians have come through with no major injuries.

For more pictures and more information about our recent runs please check out, AND LIKE, our Facebook and Instagram pages.

Pre Construction Trip To KME

In late January members of our Apparatus committee traveled to Nesquehoning, PA for a pre-construction meeting on our new rescue pumper. At the headquarters of KME our team planned every detail of the apparatus. The committee had to make finial decisions on every component. Every light, shelf, and tool had to be given a home. Throughout this process we applied the same guiding principle, “what is going to help us serve our community the best?”
